Types of Cancer We Treat

When Your Child Has Cancer

If your child is diagnosed with cancer, you will likely experience shock, disbelief and sadness. You can have peace of mind in knowing you can find the best care close to home.

pediatric oncologyIf your child is diagnosed with cancer, we're here for you. We understand how difficult this experience may be, so we offer the highest quality care close to home. You can rest assured that your child is being cared for by children's cancer specialists and your whole family will get the support you need. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 877-LVH-KIDZ (584-5439) or 610-402-CARE (2273).

We have the area's only two children's full-time cancer specialists. They treat cancer and bleeding disorders and are called pediatric hematologists/oncologists. They can provide all of your child's diagnosis and treatment right here in the Lehigh Valley. They provide:
  • Diagnoses of leukemia, infant leukemia (called ALL) and other childhood cancers
  • Inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy
  • Supportive services like blood transfusions and antibiotics
If your child needs surgery or an overnight stay in the hospital for care, she will stay in our pediatrics unit. For many treatments, a child can come to the Pediatric Specialty Center and go home the same day. If same-day surgery is required, we have a pediatric general surgeon and a pediatric ambulatory surgery unit.

When radiation therapy is necessary, our pediatric specialists work with doctors who specialize in treating cancer with radiation (called radiation oncologists) at our Cancer Center to treat children as young as 3 months of age. Because children are still growing, their radiation therapy is delivered in a way that does not interfere with their normal development.

Throughout your child’s cancer treatment, our specialists and specially educated oncology nurses provide comfort and support.

Treating Bleeding Disorders

Our hematologists/oncologists also diagnose and treat bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, von Willebrand's disease, protein disorders, blood clots (called thrombosis), sickle cell disease, many forms of anemia and other disorders.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 877-LVH-KIDZ (584-5439) or 610-402-CARE (2273). Our experts are ready to help you.
